Winners of the King’s Colours
This illustration shows the Higham Ferrers Company C.L.B., which helped to win, for Northants Battalion, the King’s Colours at the Midland District encampment, at Rhyl, last August.
It was understood that the last Company in the Northants Battalion should have the Colours for the year, and the Higham Ferrers Company have proved themselves entitled to the honour.
Competitions have been proceeding throughout the winter, the judge being Captain St John Brown, of the Northampton Territorials. As a result of the competitions there was a tie between Northampton St Lawrence and Higham Ferrers. These two Companies drilled at Earls Barton on Easter Monday, Higham Ferrers being declared the winners.

The Company in the illustration is practically the same team as that which proved so successful on Easter Monday, except that the officers in the illustration are Captain Denys Crew, Lieut. The Rev F Richardson, Lieut. C Smith, Sergt. Instructor W Smith, and Chaplain the Rev G M Davidson, the only change being that now Mr Richardson has gone and Mr F Joseph Simpson has taken his place.

Church Lads Brigade
Letters from Field Marshal Lord Grenfell, governor and commandant of the C.L.B. were received by Capt. F. J. Simpson (Higham) and Capt. A. T. Nichols (Rushden), on Sunday morning to the effect that he had offered the C.L.B. for the disposal of His Majesty’s Government, and requesting them to report themselves at the Territorial headquarters, Northampton, on Monday morning. Captains Simpson and Nichols complied with the order and furnished details regarding the number of lads over 17 years of age in each company willing to serve. We understand that there were 19 from Higham and 22 from Rushden. These, if called upon, will in all probability be attached to the Territorial forces. Members of the Rushden C.L.B. went on Monday to Northampton, and are stationed at various bridges on guard to relieve the men now allotted to that task.
