The screen, the money for which has been raised by subscription and parochial effort, is a very handsome work and is made of the finest oak. It is erected between the chancel and the nave and gives a beautifying effect to the fine old church. The pulpit has recently been moved to the other side of the chancel and now stands facing the centre of the nave. The rood-screen was designed by Mr. J.F. Traylen of Stamford and the work was executed by Messrs. Bowman and Sons, also of Stamford.
Early in the evening, tea was served in the Church Rooms, where a good number sat down to an excellent repast. Among those present were the Rector (the Rev. J.B. Dollart) Canon Guy Rogers, The Rev. Ion Carroll (Vicar of St. Peter’s Rushden) the Rev. C. Fenton Bolland (Rector of Brington) and the churchwardens (Messrs. R. Ward and W.R. Lovell).
In a brief and happy speech the Rector said perhaps they would remember three tall men at a gathering two years ago. These three included one particularly nervous and feeling very much out of place (himself). Now they could look back and see many improvements during two years. The work, too, had not only been material but spiritual and he was confident that they would go forward. He was very pleased to have his great friend Canon Rogers with them on that occasion and it was very kind of him to come. Canon Rogers, they would remember, was one of the three tall men (the Bishop was the other.)
Mr. R. Ward, senior churchwarden, proposed a vote of thanks to Canon Rogers for coming down to dedicate the rood-screen, and in doing so mentioned several directions in which the church work had been extended.
Mr. W.R. Lovell, the other warden, seconded the vote, and said that since the Rector came to Stanwick they had done so well financially and socially too, clubs and institutes had been started. The vote was heartily accorded.
Canon Rogers, in replying, congratulated them on the excellent work he noticed had been done since last he was at Stanwick and especially the splendid condition in which the Church was being kept. There was, as they knew, a close link between himself and Mr. Dollar, both by mutual service in the Army, and by service under one master at West Ham. He wished them God speed in all the work they were undertaking.
Mr. Dollar moved a hearty vote of thanks to the ladies who had organised the tea and Mr. W.J. Blackwell having seconded, the vote was carried with acclaim.
The service of dedication was held later in the Parish church, and the clergy present were the Rector (the Rev. J.B. Dollar). Canon Rogers, The Rev. C.F. Bolland (Brington), the Rev. Ion Carroll (Rushden St. Peters) the Rev. H.K. Fry R.D. (Higham Ferrers) and the Rev. F.C. Boultbee (Hargrave). The Rector took the screen and gave an address. The lessons were read by the Rev. Ion Carroll and the Rev. C.F. Bolland respectively. There was a large congregation and Mr. E. Wadsworth was at the organ.
