Higham Soldier Killed
Sergeant A. Bird Fatally Wounded – In the Battle of the Aisne

Mr and Mrs George Bird, of Westfields, Higham Ferrers, who for several months past could obtain no news of their son, on Wednesday received an official notice from the War Office, which stated that Sergt. A Bird, of the 1st Northants Regt., was killed at the battle of the Aisne on Sept. 14th. Much sympathy will be felt with Mr and Mrs Bird in their bereavement, as their son, the late Sergt. A Bird, was high respected throughout the town. Prior to the war he was employed at Messrs Parker’s boot factory, and was called up as a reservist in August. Mr and Mrs Bird have three other sons in His Majesty’s forces, viz., Privates F Bird (Scottish Rifles), G Bird (7th Northants) and W Bird (National Reserve).
