Winslow Ford first opened in Washbrook Road in Rushden, in the early 1970s. And stayed opposite Spencer Park for over thirty years, before ending up at Northampton Road in 2004.
The choice of a vehicle’s paintwork colour, in these days, can be mind blowing. Albeit, how much extra cash you are willing to splash out, to achieve that eye catching shade? Although having that stand out colour, can in later years make you remember the decade of its halcyon days. A classic example of this, is the Ford Capri in “Daytona” yellow, with go-faster black vinyl roof. The production run of that iconic shape, was turned out in the late 1960’s, and up to 1973. If you forked out to buy it in the super seventies, it would have been around £900. That name has been used again, and in 2026, the Ford Capri was still on sale. Over in America, the super industrialist for some forty plus years, Henry Ford informed his early customers, that they could choose any colour for the paintwork of their vehicles, as long as it was black! That infamous car model was the now infamous Ford model T which came on the American roads in 1908. On a more general industrial point, Mr Henry Ford, was one of the bosses who introduced the five day working week. This went on to be trimmed down, to a forty hour week. Currently Ford is a global brand.
Winslow Ford's Northampton Road site in 2004. This was opposite Toseland Building Supplies, later Buildbase (currently Huws Gray), and Helix Lighting (currently Home Outlet Store). This site was finally closed in the Spring of 2026, after another twenty two years of local customer care, stocking and servicing new and second hand vehicles. |
