Charles Hawes
Baker

Charles Adolphus Hawes was born 30th October 1884 at Blisworth in a railway cottage. His father Charles was from Rickmansworth HRT and a signalman on the railway, and his mother Naomi came from Eaton Bray BDF.

Charles A was aged 16 working as a printer's machinist in 1901.

He was working for Rushden Co-op in 1911 as a baker and living at 88 Glassbrook Road. He married Daisy Ellis (born 11th June 1888) on 6th February 1911 at Wollaston. His father Charles was a signalman and her father was John a shoemaker.

Charles and Daisy had three children, Raymond C born 1912, Joan H born 1915 and William F born 1919.

In 1914 he moved to 3 Church Street and took over the business of Edwin Mole. Charles continued to trade here until at least 1940.

William was still with his parents and working as a grocer's assistant in 1939.

Charles A Hawes died in December 1958. Daisy died in October 1981 aged 93, living by then in North Buckinghamshire..
