Pork Butcher - 119 High Street
"Ye Olde Noted Pork Shoppe"

Herbert George Hopes took over the shop from Joseph Green after Joseph had suffered a stroke and traded there until 1940. Herbert married Gertrude Lilian Green daughter of the late Joseph, in 1916.

Signs on the shop wall and blinds declare "H G Hopes - Pork Pies & Sausauages Our Sepcialities".

Photograph below shows a parade in the early 1920s passing the shop.

Below when the shop name shows as "Ye Olde Noted Pork Shoppe" and Cartwright's at the corner was now G W Cobley's bakery. c1935
