Several new business ventures seem to have come to life, in what were buildings that were being used previously. And some moved in the latter part of 2024.
So we can have a look at exactly who, and what they are.
In Church Street we now have “Peach”, who are now in what was the “Wheatcroft” shop. Here you can spend your money on Beauty treatments, with Lash tinting at £15, and a pedicure for £42. This had been a landmark electrical establishment for many years, when Theodore Wheatcroft opened just after the Second World War. He had started to off at number 3 Church Street, and then opened up his showroom over the road at number 4. The shop finally closed after a run of seventy years. For a three year period the shop was occupied by Mr. David Cole, and the doors shut again in the summer of 2018. Located in the former Post Office building in College Street, another business has opened its doors. The former Post Office counter had been here until 1995, and then made the short move into what was the Budgens supermarket. And the counter is currently located in the Cherry pharmacy at number 85 High Street. The name Budgen is back in Rushden after an absence of 17 years, when a smaller branch opened in the spring of 2024, at number 165 Grangeway.
Having been occupied by the Hopmaster General for a time, the former post office is going to be operated by the Three Hills Brewery, which started out in 2017. Doors opened on Friday 25th October, 2024.
At number 65, on the corner Robinson Road and Kings Place, a hair salon by the name of “Hairology”, where you can book for a wash, cut and finish at £30. It had been a hairdressers previously, and had the names of “Reflections” for a time, and finally “Cizzor Cutz” until 2017. For many years much earlier, the property was run as a general store by the Clark family. Just nearby in Queen Street, the King Edward VII re-opened on Friday October 11th, 2024.
It had a short closure period, from Monday, September 2nd. It has now been taken on by Horris Smith and Rob Herbert, who have been running the Hare and Hounds in Little Addington. Both drinking establishments had sunny weather for their opening days, with highs of 16C. Lots of great information on our local weather etc at http://www.rushden-weather.co.uk/ |
