Sanders Lodge Trading Estate
1960s - 1970s
In the 1960/70s factories started to build on land on the outskirts of town. The lake in this picture is the remains of the old brickworks kept by John Clark jun. who lived at Heatherbreea, set amongst the trees in the field at the top of the road shown - Wellingborough Road.
The start of Industrial Estates being built on the outskirts of most towns, where land was cheaper, than town land which was in great demand for housing.

In the 1960s the lake was to be filled by local builders dumping earth from large building sites as the foundations were being prepared.

Express Dry Cleaning works in 1954 was one of the first to build in this area. The farm at the foot of the picture was known as Grange Farm, later called Sanders Lodge which also gives its name to the road junction, with the old Kimbolton Road, then known as Northampton Road.

Note the Skew Bridge railway bridge at the top of this picture - it had diappeared before the pictures below!
Between these two businesses was Denley & Bedford vehicle body builders in 1956.
About 1960 after Express had extended their premises. Land beyond destined to become Crown Park in the 1990s.
