Robert Tusting & Ellen Tusting
Dressmaker
1934 advert

Robert Tusting was living in Moor Road in 1901 and was from Thrapston. Robert is aged 29 and a commercial clerk, and his wife Ellen is a dressmaker born at Horncastle aged 32.

He had married Ellen Mawer at Rushden on 11th November 1897 at St Mary’s Church, when Ellen’s father was named as Henry (deceased) and she was a tailor’s assistant.

Robert was son of John Tusting and Sarah who had taken a farm at Newton Bromswold in about 1895.

Robert had moved to 28 Church Street where Ellen is listed in the trade directory as a dressmaker by 1903, and in 1910 he is an assessor and collector of taxes at 27 High Street.

Possibly Robert was working for John S Mason as this 1934 advert tells he was successor to John S Mason, who had died in 1932.

Sadly Robert died the following year.
