This bundle of deeds included the two plans above. Midland Road was laid out in 1894 and building began at the Washbrook Road end. In 1901 W G Wilmott bought ten more plots for more houses. But he did not build the houses.
In 1916 he exchanged some land with the Midland Railway Company, and the British United Shoe Machinery Co. decided to build a factory here. It was built during the time of the blizzard. First the factory was leased for 10 years, then for further terms.
In 1967 British United Shoe Machinery Co. sold the factory to Hunt's Printers. They remained here until 2017.
The building is currently being made into flats, and the yard area is also being built on. (2018)
