| Samuel Saint was born at Godmanchester on 29th July 1873. He married Annie (nee Driver, born 24th March 1878) in 1897. Their first daughter Maud was born in 1898, and three more daughters were born by 1911.
He came to Rushden with his wife and daughter, and applied to the Council for permission to build the house where he established his business at the corner of Newton Road and Robert Street, numbered as 19 Oswald Road. A yard was behind the house with a long low workshop backing onto Robert Street. His younger brother George was his apprentice and lived with them.
