Chairman's Message |
The choice of “Waltzes from Vienna” has proved a happy one. The Company are most enthusiastic about it and join with me in hoping you will enjoy the Show as much as they have in preparing it for you.
It is with great pleasure we welcome John Dane as our Producer for the first time. He studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama and as a dancer with the International ballet. After a period as a “straight” actor he turned to musicals and took the lead in many, such as “Guys and Dolls” and “Robert and Elizabeth”. He has done Cabaret in London, including The Savoy, and has appeared in revue, television and films, and has also directed many productions.
His main interest is now to establish The Orange Music Centre and to give its productions a modern style of their own which will appeal to young and old alike. We wish him every success.
I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all those who have worked so unstintingly in preparing the organisation of this production, and without whose help the Show could not go on.
Finally, I earnestly hope that you, our patrons, will find “Waltzes from Vienna” a Show to remember.

The Story of Waltzes From Vienna |
This musical is based on the struggle of Strauss junior for recognition against his Father’s opposition; and their eventual reconciliation.
The story unfolds in Ebeseder’s confectionery shop in Vienna, and introduces Mitzi, Vogl the tailor, his son Leopold and Ebeseder’s daughter Lina, with the two fathers trying to “match” their respective offspring.
Johann Strauss junior then enters and upsets the match-making. Olga, a wealthy, high-society lady of foreign extraction, hears the Waltz that Strauss junior has composed and dedicated to Lina, but persuades him to dedicate it to her with a promise of help; this upsets Lina.
Act II opens with Strauss senior conducting the orchestra at Dommayer’s garden restaurant. The selfish attitude of father towards son is then seen, and Olga, with the help of Vronski, arranges for Strauss senior to be called to the Russian Embassy during the concert. Johann junior, who has been hurriedly called, is then able to conduct his own music. His father returns, finds out what has happened, and departs in a rage.
Act III opens with a Ball in Countess Baranskaya’s Salon, honouring Johann. Eventually there is a reconciliation between father and son and also between Lina and Leopold.
