Rushden and District Amateur Cine Club

Boom Time for Film Clubs

The cameras are rolling all over Northamptonshire. Not on some epic production, but in the several small but fast-growing cine clubs that have sprung up all around the area in the past few years.

The growth in amateur film making has been great. There are now cine clubs in Rushden, Corby, Kettering, Market Harborough and enthusiasts in Wellingborough.

The rise in popularity of the hobby has given amateur enthusiasts of all ages the chance to try their hand at producing, directing and shooting films.

In its early days, Rushden and District Amateur Cine Club had only 15 members. Now 11 months later, the total is nearer 40 which goes to show how quickly the venture has caught on in the town. Until recently the club has held its fortnightly meetings at the Rock Foundation Hall, but it now meets at the Adult School in Wellingborough Road.

The cine club likes to get out in the open during the drier parts of the year, mainly because this obviates most of the lighting problems that beset indoor cine filming.

They have moved as far afield as Beaconscot model village and London Airport for the scene of their productions – all of them in colour.

Nearer home, they have filmed the last two Rushden carnivals and will do the same this year. The club may even enter their own float.
