Spotlight's on local causes
CHARITY begins at home and that's the motto being adopted by Rushden's Chichele Rotary Club during the coming year.
Richard Oberman, vice-principal of Tresham College at Corby, has taken over from last year's president, Robert Gibson, of Avenue Road, Rushden.
Mr Oberman, of Finedon Road, Rushden, said: "Last year we raised over £7,000 for Polio Plus to help eradicate polio with a vaccination programme in the Third World. This year the spotlight is on local community service and local causes."
One of the biggest fundraisers will be the sale of carol cassettes at Christmas containing music recorded by local choirs. This alone raised £850 last year. Mr Oberman is also hoping to hold a sponsored stroll next May.
The club meets on Mondays from 7.45pm to 10pm at Rushden Town Football Club.
