ROUND TABLE is primarily an organisation of young business and professional men. The retiring age of 40 is adhered to very rigidly. It began in the 1920's when one Louis Marchesi, a pastrycook of Norwich, noted how it was mainly the older people who produced the ideas in business, who put into practice schemes for community service, and who were largely in the lead in voluntary work.
While recognising the value of what they were doing, Marchesi felt increasingly that there was a contribution to be made by the younger men, and in 1927 the first Round Table was formed at Norwich. There are now over 750 Tables with 23,000 members in this country; the Movement has spread to all parts of the Commonwealth and the Continent, and has close links with similar organisations in U.S.A., Canada and Australia.
The Aims and Objects of Round Table can be summarised as the encouragement of high ethical standards in commercial life, the development of acquaintance among men in all vocations, and the quickening of individual interest in everything affecting public welfare. In furtherance of these, the Movement and individual Tables have over the last 35 years raised vast sums of money for charity and members have given time and effort to extend practical help in innumerable cases of hardship, disease, infirmity and loneliness.

Rushden Round Table
There are several Round Tables in the County, and RUSHDEN ROUND TABLE was formed in 1950. Since then, members have helped to raise several thousand pounds for local charities and have done much work in Rushden and district.
The Round Table's share of the Air Display profits will go to the Charity Fund. Some of the Tables' efforts are for specific purposes, such as the local Blind or Christmas Hampers, but much money is spent behind the scenes in answering individual calls for help in cases of desperate need. In addition to supporting the regular and well known causes, Rushden Round Table are constantly on the lookout for cases of need in any form whatever in order that help and assistance may be given. It is, therefore, impossible to say at this stage how the Round Table's share of the profit will be spent, but you may be assured that every penny will be devoted to help and assist those who are in need.
