Thomas Wilmott was born in Rushden in 1835, son of William and Ann. In 1865 he married Amelia (nee Fry) who was born at Galhampton in Somerset. Their son Thomas was born in Rushden in 1867, and a son William George was born in 1868 at Chelsea. At the time of this birth Thomas was engaged as a ganger on the construction of the St. Pancras viaduct by a big London firm. In 1871 Amelia was in Rushden with her two sons, but in 1872 a third son, Walter, was born at Shepton Mallet. In 1878 the family was living in Duck Street and Thomas was a carman employing four men and one boy. He was a customary tenant of the Manor of Rushden.
Thomas then lived at 54 Wellingborough Road, and he also built a row of cottages behind called "Thrift Cottages." In 1889 he also built a stable in Fitzwilliam Street.
When Thomas died in 1907 his son Walter was admitted as tenant.
