The factory in Park Road 1893-1908
In 1888 the firm was founded by the late Charles Bull and Alfred Clayton. They built a factory in Park Road about 1893, but Charles Bull retired in 1900, owing to ill health, and Alfred Clayton took his son Walter Clayton into the business. In about 1910 they built another factory in Manton Road. The trade was Men’s and Boys’ Medium Class Goods, but during the War they principally made Army Boots.
Two sons of Mr. Alfred Clayton served in the Great War: Private A. E. Clayton in the Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry and Drummer F. R. Clayton, R.N.V.R.
