R & A Kohnstamm Ltd are listed in Kelly's Directory 1940 as Leather Factors and Importers, in High Street. It was a London company with branches at Leicester, Northampton and Rushden. A Mr Lilley represented the company at George Selwoods funeral in 1931, and at Alfred Sargent's Jubilee in 1950. Ernest Catling started his leather factors business in 1917, behind Stonehurst in High Street, Rushden. George Henry Bull took over his yard and premises in the early 1930s and remained there until about 1958. In 1965 Kohnstamm's address was given as High Street, and we are told they also had premises in the yard of Stonehurst. This area was re-developed in the late 1970s.
