Charles Chamberlain
Cycle Repairs & Cycle Agent

Charles Chamberlain was born at Northampton in 1867. In 1886 he married Elizabeth Jane Cooke. They had two sons, Andrew Charles and Harold Leo.

In 1910 Andrew Charles had started a cycle agency business at 18 Glassbrook Road as Charles junior. The following year he had left England for Australia, and by 1914 his father had moved the cycle agency to 78 Wellingborough Road, formerly Emily Berrill grocer and sub-postoffice. The postoffice was moved to Miss G K Harris' drapery business at 144 Wellingborough Road.

Charles also advertised gramaphones and records in 1917:

CHAS Chamberlain for Gramophones,
Records 1/3, 1/8, and 2/0. Repairs a speciality. Flashlight lamps and refills.
78 Wellingborough-road, Rushden.

Charles applied to the Council in 1922 to store 80 gallons of petrol, and this was granted subject to the store being to the satisfaction of the Inspector. He advertised in Kelly's Directory from 1914 until 1931.

D & E R Cutmore, were cycle agents and repairers, at 78 Wellingborough Road, in 1936.
David moved into High Street, first to No. 87, then next to the Independent Wesleyan Church.

E R Cutmore continued in Church Street.
