Early Springtime 2025, and work was underway on converting the building. During the early Summer period, internal jobs were taking place, in fitting out the ramps etc. Some of those now looked very different to the traditional previous generation.
The site has the benefit of a large secure yard, and space seems to be put to good use. I mention this because as a motorist, there is nothing more frustrating than trying to shunt around in an area more suited to a shoe box.
Kwik Fit Rushden site was officially opened by Cllr Gill Mercer on Tuesday 24th June, 2025. Ideal sunny weather for cutting the ribbon, sunshine, with a high of 25C. Managing the new site at 150 High Street, Rushden is Adam Sinfield, who will be on hand to assist you. Later during the week on the Friday and Saturday, visitors could enjoy some more fun things going on. And some brightly coloured gift bags, were being distributed.
The depot does seem really well set up, and now drivers have so many things to think about with most modern vehicles. Even car Air con systems have variations in the refrigerant used. Don’t worry about it though, you cannot use the wrong type, because the filling nozzle cannot be wrongly inserted.
Kwik Fit became the newest tyre depot in town, alongside the long established family run firm of : Orbit, founded by Doug Joyce in the 1960s, and brother Ken came on board too. Both Doug and Ken could be seen wrestling at the Windmill club in town, and also on our TV screens, with commentary by Kent Walton. And located at the bottom of Washbrook Road we have Hi Q auto centre. This used to be Spencer Park Garage. For a little bit of nostalgia, who remembers Kettering Tyres, when they had one of their first depots at 69 Newton Road? And another Tyre establishment called Rushtyres, that was tucked away at 106 Washbrook Road. Both of those places are now long gone, but something to take us back in time. Talking of Summer, and other weather periods, you can find out so much about what has been happening in and around our town, by going to http://www.rushden-weather.co.uk/ I thank the management team at Kwik Fit, Rushden, for showing me a round, and making me more than welcome. On Saturday 28th June, 2025, the temperature was 29C under a clear blue sky, with a gusty breeze. |
