Handicapped children can look forward to a summertime trip to the seaside - thanks to a gift of cash raised by youngsters in Earls Barton.

About 20 mentally handicapped patients from Rushden Hospital's Colton Ward will be enjoying the treat, paid for from the £100.

Members of Earls Barton Church Lads' and Church Girls' Brigade raised the cash during a sponsored walk and at a morning market. They also donated cash from other fundraising activities to the ward the previous year.

The group's company commander, Mr Roger Pickford, visited Colton Ward with his sons, Neal (14) and Gregory (9) to present the cheque on behalf of the other youngsters. It was received by ward sister Sally Childs.
