Over recent years, College Street in Rushden has seen a few changes, to put it mildly.

The closure of the ever popular Budgens store, then the change to what was Wilko. Eventually that building became B & M Bargains in 2025.

The taxi rank in College Street was always kept reasonably busy, with a steady stream of customers wandering across to get a taxi home.

The former Ritz cinema, until the mid 1980s, then became a bingo hall called Flutters. The final number being called at the end of 2022.

Although there have been a couple of quite ambitious schemes, and projects to breath a new life in to the old girl!

One of those was by the Rushden Ritz Theatre Preservation Group, who would have loved to have been able to raise funds to purchase the building. It was thought be in the region of £600,000.

Directly opposite was one our last banks to close, this was Barclays, in the summer of 2021.

During 2025, lots of work was taking place to convert this in to several flats.
