Council Meeting reports include many interesting notes and detail the changes in the town. The late 1800s saw the village grow rapidly into a town, when mechanisation meant shoe work was moved into factories. This brought problems: housing the influx of workers from other villages, water supply and sanitation, roads, and schools. All this expansion came before WWI which then brought other problems for the Council to deal with. Another expansion took place after WWI when many new Council Houses were built, and again post WWII to provide homes for the returning Heroes.
Plans submitted to the Council for approval are often noted in the meetings reports.
