Jubilee Day 1935
Presentation—A Jubilee Day presentation was made at the Newton-road Infant School to Miss A. O. Capon, for many years a member of the teaching staff and now headmistress of the Burton Latimer Infant School. After the Jubilee tea an initialled fountain pen from the staff and the children of Standard I was presented by Miss Barber, who spoke of Miss Capon’s long connection with the school and her untiring efforts on behalf of the children. They would all be sorry to lose her, but they wished her every success in her new school at Burton Latimer. Miss Capon suitably replied, and the ceremony ended with three lusty cheers from the children.

Jubilee Ball—Despite the warm weather dancers from all over the county at the Windmill Hall on Jubilee night, and to the strains of Dick Brewster’s Band danced through the cavalcade of 25 years. A specially rehearsed programme had been prepared from tunes popular during the last 25 years, and these were announced through the microphone. Mr. Jim Knight was the M.C. and organiser, and Mr. Harold Corby amplified the music.

Rod Barker’s Band supplied the music for dancing, and Mr. Sid Pratt was the M.C. The artistes were the Misses P. Jones, K. Wilkins and J. Wilson (fancy dancing), and Mr. C. Green (piano accordion), Members of the Mother’s Union gave a sketch “The Village Shop,” and Miss Violet Kempton and party contributed solos and a sketch.
