It was one of the coldest days they had ever known when Bill and Jessie Knight got married at Irchester Methodist Church. But the couple had a warm home to go back to after the service and on Saturday got together at their home in Avenue Road, Rushden, with members of their family for a party to celebrate 50 years together.

Mr Knight ended his working career with his own coal merchants and haulage business. The couple met at a dance in Irchester where Jessie lived.

In retirement Bill keeps pigeons, a goat and two sheep and is a keen gardener while Jessie's hobbies are cooking and helping out with the animals.
