Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Allen
Tomorrow (Saturday) will be a happy day for Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Allen of 13, Duck Street, Rushden , whose golden wedding celebration is bound to be marked by the receipt of many congratulatory messages from friends in the Rushden and Thrapston district. Both Mr. and Mrs. Allen are 72 years of age and their marriage took place at the Parish Church, Woodford on April 1st 1872. Mr. Allen is a native of Woodford and his bride (Miss M.A. Briggs) though born at Elton, Hunts., had lived at Woodford since her early girlhood. The wedding was conducted by the late Rev. Christopher Smyth. Remaining in Woodford 15 or 17 years, Mr. Allen, who was a handsewn craftsman in the boot industry, then brought his wife to Rushden, where they have resided for 33 or 34 years. Their surviving children are Mrs. C. Perkins (now in Australia) and Mr. Harry Allen of Montague Street, Rushden and they have five grandchildren. Their second son, lost his life in the Battle of Loos. Though Mr. Allen will be 73 in June and Mrs. Allen 73 in May, they both enjoy fairly good health and look forward to many more years of quiet happy companionship.
