Bates – Fairey — The marriage was solemnized at the Park-road Baptist Church, Rushden, on Monday, by the Rev. R. C. Law, of Miss Ada Rose Fairey, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Fairey, of 69 Harborough-road, Rushden, and Pte. Jim Bates, eldest son of Mr. J. H. Bates, of Church-street, Ringstead.
The bride, who was given away by Pte. Harry Newland, was charmingly gowned in crepe royal, trimmed with swansdown. She also wore a bridal veil and wreath of orange blossom, and carried a choice bouquet of lilies and chrysanthemums, the gift of the bridegroom. Four bridesmaids were in attendance. The two elder, viz., the Misses L. Bates (sister of the bridegroom) and M. Sharpe (friend of the bride) were tastefully attired in pale blue crepe royal, with black hats trimmed with pale blue. Two little nieces of the bride, the Misses Olive Deighton and Gwendoline Fairey, wore pretty dresses of pale blue silk and mob caps. Mr. W. B. P. Bates (brother of the bridegroom) carried out the duties of best man.
A reception at the bride’s home followed the ceremony. Pte. and Mrs. Bates were the recipients of many handsome and useful wedding gifts.
Richardson – Buckle — The marriage took place at the Park-road Baptist Church, Rushden, on Sunday morning, of Miss Florence Gertrude Buckle, youngest daughter of Mrs. J. E. Buckle, of 12 Co-operative-row, Rushden, to Pte. George Henry Richardson, of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richardson, of Raunds. The Rev. R. C. Law officiated.
The bride was given away by her brother-in-law, Pte. Robert Willmot, of the Northants Regiment, who is home on leave from France. She was tastefully costumed in brown, with white hat trimmed with orange blossom. The bridesmaid, Miss Ella Brown (friend of the bride), wore a dark brown costume, with hat to match.
After the ceremony a reception was held at the bride’s home.
Pte. and Mrs. Richardson have received many useful presents. For many years the bride has been a teacher in the Park-road Baptist Sunday School, and has also taken an active interest in the Band of Hope and Y.P.S.C.E. in connection with that place of worship. The bridegroom, who is a native of Raunds, was in Canada when war broke out, and enlisted in the Canadian Contingent. He has been in France over two years, and has been twice wounded. He returned to the Western front on Monday.
