Rushden Echo, 23rd April 1909, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mr. Charles Church

Presentation to an Old Footballer

Mr. Charles Church, and old Rushden footballer, was the recipient of a pleasing testimonial on Monday night. Mr. Church, who is leaving for Canada, was at one time a half-back in the old Rushden Town Football Club, and did valuable work for the organisation. He played for the club when won the Northamptonshire Senior, Kettering Charity, and Luton Charity Cups, and also played for the county. To show their appreciation of his services to the game a number of sportsmen in the town got up a subscription to make him a present. A meeting was held at the Waverley Hotel on Monday night, presided over by Mr. C. Claridge, himself an old Rushden and County player. The Chairman referred in high terms to Mr. Church’s service to local sport and asked him to accept a purse of money and an address. Mr. Church replied in suitable terms, and was the recipient of hearty wishes for his future welfare from those present.
