Members of the Rushden Women’s Adult School, to the number of over 30, met on Friday last in the garden of Mr. and Mrs. Tuffrey, of Station-road, to celebrate the golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Archer Goosey, of 3 Kilburn-place, Rushden, formerly of Irchester. Mr. and Mrs. Goosey, who were married on July 6th 1873, at the Irchester Parish Church, were received with hearty cheers by the guests, and many expressions of felicitation were extended to them.
Mrs. Goosey, who for the last eleven years had been a member of the Rushden Women’s Adult School, was a native of Northampton, being born in the parish of St. Edmund. She holds three certificatesone for first-aid, one for the Nursing Class, and one from the Midwifery Board. Mr. Goosey was a native of Irchester, and after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Goosey resided in Irchester until eleven years ago, when the removed to Rushden. There were four children of the marriage, but only one survivesa son, aged 42, who lives at Northampton, holding a responsible position.
Excellent work has been done for many years by Nurse Goosey. For 32 years whe was a nurse and midwife, holding the necessary qualifications, and she did not give up this work until she was 72 years of age, when she received a very handsome present from some of the friends of the Midwifery Board for long and devoted service, for honourable character, and for high efficiency. It is gratifying to state that in her wok in this direction she has never lost a case and never had a relapse on the part of a patient.
While residing at Irchester Mr. and Mrs. Goosey were members of the Wesleyan Church there. The son who now lives at Northampton was a scholar in the Wesleyan Sunday-school, receiving a Bible for good conduct, and he was one of those who laid bricks when the Sunday-school premises there were being enlarged. For a considerable time Mr. Goosey was employed by the Ebbw Vale Company at Irthlingborough, and he walked to and from his work daily. For the last seven years he has been in the employ of the Higham Ferrers Town Council. When Mr. and Mrs. Goosey removed from Irchester it was in order that the latter might take up midwifery duties at Higham Ferrers, as there was no midwife in the borough at that time. As they could not get a house at Higham Ferrers, Mr. and Mrs. Goosey took one on the Higham-road, Rushden, and there have resided ever since. At the golden wedding festivities on Friday last the guests presented Mr. and Mrs. Goosey with a wedding cake. In response, Mrs. Goosey said she was very grateful for the honour, but felt she could hardly find words with which to express her gratitude. She was very proud of the way they had received her and her husband. Several of the friend responded, and said they were proud to have Mrs. Goosey as a member of their School. After tea, which was nicely served in the garden, a pleasant time was spent in social enjoyment. Mr. and Mrs. Goosey desire to express their sincere thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Tuffrey and to all who so kindly honoured them. During their residence in Rushden they have made many friends in the town and district.
