Hustwait Family

Memories of the Hustwait Family of 25 Church Street.

The shop at 25 Church Street

My first visit to 25 Church Street was with my Aunt, Ada Church in the early forties. Her sister Doris had married Victor (Vic) Hustwait in 1933.

My Uncle Eddie Church and Vic were both serving in the services at that time.

The Hustwait Family

Winifred (Win) was born 22nd August 1899, William Victor (Vic) was born 14th November 1903, and Cyril Wilfred was born 23rd March 1908, at 25 Church Street.

As children, they all attended Alfred Street School; Win was admitted on 1st May 1908, Vic on 1st May 1912, and Cyril 3 years later on 3rd May 1915.

Cyril Hustwait married Agnes E Horner in 1936 in Thrapston, and in 1942. Their son Michael John was born and he was baptised at St Peter's Church, Rushden, on 16th May 1942, and his mother was named as Ellen Agnes, so she must have used her middle name?

Vic Hustwait
Vic joined the Army in October 1942. He spent most of his war years in Aldershot or the surrounding district.

In 1946 he purchased a new build semi-detached house in Hall Avenue. I remember my many visits there.

Vic continued in the business with his brother until his retirement.
