Sunday was the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Walter George Lyman, of 10, Newton-road, Rushden, and there was a family gathering at the house, with a special cake made by Mrs. Lyman and iced in gold, white and mauve. Greeting cards and telegrams were received.
The wedding was at Wollaston Parish Church on April 15th 1895, and the Vicar (Rev. H. Powell) conducted the ceremony. Mr Lyman, who was born at Olney, moved to Wollaston in 1892, when he was 18, and his wife, formerly Miss Mary Ann Hornsby was a native of that place.
Mr. Lyman was in the boot trade at that time, but took up business as a chimney sweep in 1900, and in 1914 moved to Rushden. He has remained a chimney sweep all this time, but has partially retired now. His chief interest is working on his allotment.
Aged 71, Mr. Lyman is in very good health Mrs. Lyman, who is 70, keeps in quite good health too. They have had six children, of whom two sons and three daughters survive—Mr. R. Lyman, who has been in Canada for 24 years, Mr. F. Lyman, at Luton. Miss. U. Hollam, a N.A.A.F.I. manageress, Miss W. Lyman and Miss H. Lyman, who is in business in High-street South. There are a grandson and two granddaughters in Canada and two grandsons at Luton.
