George S Lyne was son of Jesse, and he came to Rushden from the village of Odell in Bedfordshire. Here he met Beatrice Annie Burton, second daughter of Robinson and Isabella, when he worked for her father, at 45 Crabb Street. They married at St Mary's Church on June 16th 1897, when George was 20 and Beatrice was 19, and George later took over the business. George and Beatrice had eight children, but sadly one died in infancy. George R was the eldest son, was born on 17th May 1899, William Ronald was born in 1900, Beatrice Rosamund died aged 11 months in April 1902. John Leopold was baptised 2nd October 1902, Ernest Frederick was baptised 11th November 1903, Louis Howard was baptised 17th Novenmber 1904, Florence Margaret was baptised 17th October 1906 and Emily Frances on 25th May 1910. George and Beatrice celebrated their golden wedding in 1947. Beatrice died in 1950, and George in 1958 aged 83 years. They were buried in Rushden Cemetery:
George jun., became a house painter and he married Alice A. They lived at 19 Pratt Road in 1939. Third son, John worked in the business at least until William and Annie married. He later became a van driver and lived at 8 Clifton Grove in Kettering in 1939. William worked with his father, and he married Annie Salisbury (born 6th October 1901) in 1925. The Salisburys came from Irchester. They had two boys.
The two sons, Ronald R (born 7th May 1927) and Harold (born 1930) went to Nottinghamshire to be Bevan Boys in the coal mines in WWII and both ended up staying there.
William died in 1954 aged 54, Annie having predeceased him two years earlier. They are buried in Rushden cemetery, graves F 1621 and F 1618. |
