Amid many signs of regret the funeral of the late Mrs Currie of Rushden House took place on Saturday afternoon in the cemetery. Shortly before 2 o’clock the mournful procession left Rushden House and proceeded to the Parish Church where a large congregation had assembled.
The Revs W.R. Morse (Rector) and J.G. Forest (Curate) met the cortège at the entrance to the churchyard, Mr Forest reading the opening passages of the burial service. As the body of the deceased lady was removed up the aisle of the church and the choir sang the hymn ‘Peace, Perfect Peace’. Psalm XC having been chanted, the Rector read a portion of 1. Cor. XV. The hymn ‘On the Resurrection Morning’ was then sung and the Rev. J.G. Forest said the prayers. Appropriate music was played by Mr J.E. Smith (Organist) as the cortège left the church.
The principal mourners being, Lt. Colonel Yorke and the Rev. A. Campbell Yorke (Brothers), Mrs de S. Terriere (Niece) and Captain de S. Terriere, Mrs William Currie (Daughter in Law), Colonel Parry Okeden, Mr Bernard Yorke, Mr Vickers, Miss Sartoris, Colonel Pratt, the Rev. E.E. Law, Dr Crew, Mr W. Hirst Simpson, and the servants from Rushden House.
Among those in the church or at the grave side were the Revs H.K. Fry and F.E. Perrin, Messrs H.W. Wilkins, Frederick Knight, G.S. Mason, J. Claridge, G. Miller, G.H. Skinner, C.F. Tail, J. Wykes Ashdowne, J. Sargent, A. Ginns, and others.
The Rector read the concluding part of the burial service in the cemetery. The coffin, of polished oak with brass furniture, bore the inscription;
