Ninety-nine years of age, Mr George Warner, Rushden’s oldest resident died in Northampton General Hospital on Wednesday July 12th.
Mr Warner had kept in good health up to six weeks ago, but it then began to fail and he was in the hospital for one week only.
He was born at Molesworth and came to Rushden about 50 years ago, starting business as a boot manufacturer in Duck-street, transferring to College-street and finally Harborough-road where he lived in the adjoining house No. 70. The business was taken over by C Collins and Co., Leather Dressers, seven years ago.
Mr Warner, besides taking an active part in the factory, was a keen gardener and pig keeper, and up to his death still owned and cared for two pigs. He was a member of the Conservative Club.
His wife predeceased him about 27 years ago, and, resident at the present address for 30 years, he had been with his daughter, Miss M Warner.
Three daughters are left; two at Rushden, and one at Gillingham, Dorset.
The funeral was on Monday, service being conducted at the home by the Rector (Rev E A Green) before interment at Rushden.
Chief mourners were: Mrs A Cook, Mrs L Head, of Gillingham, and Miss M Warner (daughters), Mrs A Maddock (sister) and Mrs J Edwards and Mrs F Craddock (granddaughters).
