A Tribute

Grev - our friend

Grev was the chairman of Rushden & District History Society when we first joined, and we had much in common. We were both researching our Family History and also had an interest in local history.

Later we joined the group researching in the Rushden Echo, to find articles for the Society's Millennium Book, and then became committee members. In 2002 the new chairman, the late Guy Sellick-Taylor, asked me if I would start a research group, and I agreed.

Grev was with us from the start on a sub-committee. A group of about a dozen began and as the 1901 census had just been released, we transcribed and indexed Rushden. Such was the enthusiasm our team worked until we went on to produce a CD of the Higham Hundred - all 13 parishes. (Grev had already indexed a whole census for Rushden and we had helped when the 1881 census was transcribed by the Family History Society.)
The group went on to transcribe several Parish Registers too.

A Logo was needed for the CD label and our workshop committee decided on Rushden Research. If you read the links from the page, on most there is mention of Grev and the contribution he made.

When I was encouraged to "do" a website for Rushden, Grev was there throughout, on the committee and as treasurer, and then after two years of working towards the application, we got the grant to create this website. When we completed the two years learning how to create it, we didn't stop! The committee decided we could still add more information, and so the workshops continued.

Grev was the last member still attending the workshop each week when Covid hit and our meetings had to stop, and sadly unable to restart since.

Grev has left a huge hole at our History Society and at 'Hearts & Soles'.
A good friend and colleague. xx
