George Osborne will be filling his time visiting his family rather than staring into people's mouths from now on.
For George has just retired after almost 30 years as a dentist in Rushden.
Now George and his wife Moira are thinking of leaving the town to spend retirement closer to their family.
The couple, of Park Road, Rushden, have five children and four grandchildren and to celebrate George's retirement from the practice in High Street South their children joined forces to arrange a dinner.
George said: "They presented me with travellers cheques which we hope to use for a trip to Canada. "I served there in the RAF during the war and have always wanted to return for a visit." He also saw service in the Far and Middle East as a navigator.
He has been in dentistry for 35 years and until about 12 years ago was also specialist dental surgeon part time at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Welwyn Garden City.
He has been chairman of the governors at Rushden South End Junior School for about 16 years and all his five children received part of their education there.
He was a member of the former Rushden Urban Council and chairman of its public health committee until local government re-organisation. He has also served on East Northants Council since reorganisation as chairman of the environmental health committee and also as council chairman. He is also a Freemason.
He said: "My family has now moved away and we are contemplating moving to be near some of them.
"During our stay in Rushden we have been accepted by the people here who have been very friendly towards us. Many of my patients have now become friends."
