Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Sargent
Rushden Couple's Golden Wedding

Well Known Local Boot Manufacturer

Many congratulations have been extended in the district to a well-known Rushden couple, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Sargent, of 44, Newton-road, who on Saturday last celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding. Mr. Sargent, who is 74 years of age, is the principal of the firm of Messrs. Alfred Sargent and Sons, Ltd., boot manufacturers of Portland-road, Rushden. He is a native of Rushden, but Mrs. Sargent, who is a year younger than her husband, comes from Brighton. They were married at Holy Trinity Church, Clapham Common, London, in 1881 and have resided in Rushden since that date.

The family gathering was held at their home to celebrate so important an event, at which their sons and daughters were present, including Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sargent, Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sargent, also their grand-daughter, Miss Joan Sargent.

Employees’ Presentation

Mr. and Mrs. Sargent were the recipients of many handsome presents, and notable gifts were those handed to them at a presentation at the factory.

One of the foremen, Mr. William Clark, after a few suitable remarks, presented Mrs. Sargent with a gold mounted umbrella, and Mr. Sargent with a gold mounted walking stick. On behalf of the closing room, Mrs. Woods handed to Mrs. Sargent a pretty bouquet.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Sargent made brief speeches in response.
