Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Edward Underwood, of 5, Sartoris-road, Rushden, will celebrate their 50 years of married life on Saturday by a party at the home of their daughter, Mrs. J. C. Tweddle, of 15, York-road. The wedding was on Sunday, October 28th, 1894, at St. Mary’s Church, Rushden, and the curate (Rev. C. Blathwaite) officiated.
Mr. Underwood is a native of Yardley Hastings and his wife hails from Chelveston. Both of them were living in Rushden for a time before their marriage, and Mrs. Underwood was then Miss Sarah Ann Curtis. The couple are each aged 69 years and maintain good health.
For 34 years Mr. Underwood has been a finisher at Higham Ferrers Co-operative Productive Society’s boot factory, and he is a member of Rushden Windmill Club. Mrs. Underwood was formerly a member of Wellingborough-road Mission Church and Mothers’ Meeting.
There were nine children four sons and five daughters but one of the sons died last year. Of the remaining sons, one has his home at Irthlingborough, and the other two are living in Canada. Four daughters live in Rushden, and one at Higham Ferrers.
There are 18 grandchildren, and eight of them are in Canada.
