Clive Wood and his art
My favourite photograph of Clive.

Clive takes a break - painting at the Heritage Centre 2002

Clive was born in 1939, only son of Harry William and Joan Wood, and has a sister Jen. After leaving school in 1954 he became a traditional signwriter, a trade he still carries on today. His varied interests are local history, country houses, heraldry, woodcarving, collecting, and local politics.

When Rushden was granted 'Town status with a Mayor' in 2000 Clive was our first Mayor. He was also Chairman of the council in 2014.

Some Pictures painted by Clive, now donated to Rushden Museum.
Several were painted when the buildings were due for demolition.
Clive tried to fight to keep some too, most notably Rushden Hall.

Clive’s note written with this small painting:
Number 23 Bedford Road collapsed in September 1957. Once the home of Joe Dickens, who was murdered at double hedge or Spike Island, whilst he was hedge cutting.

Unidentified house by Clive - please can you identify this property?

Mrs Green
Two little pictures found with the above artwork.
Clive's note added "Mrs Green - little pictures".
A signature at the bottom right corner: Do you recognise it please?
Do you know where the buildings were?

This picture came from the late Clive Wood's collection. His note on the envelope tells us:
Sketch by Mr Hewitt - High St South - where precinct is - very good - Harry Green's Cottage.
Who was Harry Green? (three are known but we can't be sure which one) Which Mr Hewitt was the artist?
Did Mr Hewitt live where the precinct was, or is that where the cottage stood?
