First opened 1930 in Rushden with an agent, R S Whiting, at 32 Carnegie Street.

When Barclays Bank built their bank in 1937 in College Street,
The Co-op Permanent moved to Chambers above Barclays.

By 1965 they had moved to
129 High Street, and then merged with Anglia in 1973.

Established 1884 - THREE years before Queen Victoria celebrated her Jubilee, the Co-operative Permanent Building Society opened its doors in a small office at 31 Southampton Street off the Strand. In that year the books recorded total assets of £1,897 0s. 0d.

During the intervening half-century the Society has advanced more than £42,000,000 for house purchase, and has assisted over 80,000 people to achieve the ideal of owning their houses. To-day the Society's headquarters are in a large modern building and its assets are £26,000,000.

There is another side to the Society's activities. It affords the public safety and profit for their Savings and Capital, and convenience for both investing and withdrawing. From 2/- to £5,000 (maximum) is receivable in Share Capital.
