Mr. Bernard R. Palmer

Bernard Palmer started his business in the 1950s. He took over Robinson's Fruit Stores, at 21 High Street, and started to sell flowers too. He employed Jan as his assistant. Jan made beautiful floral arrangements and wreaths.

When Bernard retired, Jan took over the business and then concentrated only on the floristry, and moved to number 27, in the 1960s.

Formed by Accident

Bernard

Mr. B. R. Palmer

AN accident on the cricket field led to the formation of Rushden Amateur Operatic Society.

It happened in 1947. Mr. B. R. Palmer — whose twin interests are sport and music — was injured while playing for a Daventry team.

He tore a leg muscle twice in three matches, and decided he would have to finish playing cricket—the game he loved so much

What other interest could be find? It was then that he thought of forming an amateur operatic society.

That company has gone from strength to strength. People come from miles round to see their shows.

Light Opera

They have produced several popular light operas—"Blossom, Time," "The Three Musketeers." "The Vagabond King," "Magyar Melody," and "Bless the Bride." Last year it was "Merrie England."
