Mr. J. H. Paragreen, former chairman of Rushden Urban Council, and his wife, Elsie, celebrated their golden wedding on Wednesday.
They spent the day quietly at home, with no special celebrations.
Mr. and Mrs. Paragreen were married at St. Mary's Church. Higham Ferrers, in the first year of the 1914-18 war. Mr. Paragreen was called up on August 1, 1914, so they did not move to their present home, 22 Montague Street, Rushden, until late in 1919.
After the war Mr. Paragreen worked in the shoe trade. He was attached to the clicking department of W. and T. Robinson Bros., but later moved to work in John White's Manton Road and Park Place factories. He reĀtired 12 years ago.
It was in 1948 that Mr. Paragreen was chairman of the Urban Council on which he served for some 16 years. He was also a member of Rushden Co-operative Committee.
Mr. and Mrs. Paragreen, 78 and 76 years old respectively, have two sons and seven grandchildren.
