The Rushden Echo and Argus, 12th May, 1944, transcribed by Gill Hollis
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Timpson
Rushden Diamond Wedding

Fine Record of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Timpson’s Family

Tuesday was the Diamond Wedding day of Mr. and Mrs. William Timpson, of 3, Moor-road, Rushden, who were married 60 years ago at Mears Ashby Parish Church by the Rev. Bomer.

Mr. Timpson is 83 years of age and is keeping in quite good health, still maintaining a keen interest in his allotment and putting in a good day’s work there.  Mrs. Timpson is twelve months her husband’s junior; at present she is not enjoying the best of health.

Mrs. Timpson was formerly Miss Elizabeth Denton, of Podington, and before her marriage was employed as a maid by Captain Stockdale, of Mears Ashby Hall.  She was a skilled pillow-lace maker and maintained this activity until recently.

Born at Mears Ashby, Mr. Timpson brought his wife to Rushden 55 years ago.  He worked for his brother-in-law, Mr. Fred Noble, as a foreman finisher, and later went on to the Allen Boot Co. in the same position, retiring when 72 years of age.  For many years he has been a member of the Conservative Club.

War Service

There were six sons of the marriage, but Arthur, the third son, died two years ago.  A fine record is that all six served in the last war, while Mr. Timpson, senr., was in the Special Police.

The family order is: Chief Petty Officer George Timpson, S.N.B.R., formerly Superintendent of the Rushden St. John Ambulance Division, Mr. Herbert Timpson, who is in partnership with his brother Albert as plumbers and decorators in Carnegie-street, Mr. Walter Timpson, a foreman at Messrs. C. W. Horrell's factory, Mr. Harold Timpson, now in the Special Police, and Mr. Albert Timpson, who is a Senior Company Officer in the N.F.S.

Three of the five grandchildren are in the Services – one in the R.A.F overseas, one in the Royal Artillery, and one (a granddaughter) in the N.F.S. at Leicester.

On Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Timpson, who have been in their present house 40 years, were overwhelmed by letters and other messages of congratulation.
