Alfred Street School Memorial Garden

The Memorial Garden to the memory of the children
who lost their lives when a bomb was dropped on
the school on 3rd October 1940.

In 2006 a plaque was laid in the garden at the
Schoolby the Mayor, Sue Homer.

A blue plaque has been affixed to the wall of the school near the garden to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the disaster.

My dear friends Chrissie and Janet together with my sister organised a coffee morning at the local Methodist Church, to raise funds for the memorial garden.

They were helped by their families and church members who all worked very hard and raised £230. I am sure you will agree this was a very good effort, several ex-pupils of Lexenden school attended and we had a very enjoyable time talking about the old days. Please find enclosed a copy of our advert and of course, the cheque for £230.
