Tom Swindall came to Rushden with his wife Margaret, from Northampton, in about 1887. They first settled in Lancaster Street, and Tom established himself in the business of a carpenter and builder.
Soon they moved to 28 Moor Road, 'The Nest', and built extensive workshops behind, with access from Wentworth Road. Tom also worked hard for the community, being a member of the Urban Council, and he served as chairman in 1906, 1915, 1922 & 1928.

Mr. T. Swindall, president of the Rushden Allotments Society, entertained the committee to supper at his residence on Wednesday. A very pleasant time was spent.
